The Bagel

Sorry I've be "outta" the loop for the past several days but I've been dealing with a little dude here who stepped on a razor clam over the weekend, got a bunch of stitches, can't walk (hopping) & now has a lovely secondary infection to go along with it. The fun just keeps on coming!!

So, this is how I decided to talk about bagels.  As I was standing on line at my local bagel shop this morning (fulfilling my little dude's request for a bagel & cream cheese),  I realized that we are so very privilege to be blessed with THE New York bagel.  So many theories as to why they are the best (sorta like the NY pizza)-the water, the salt context, the attitude, etc...Whatever it may be, there is just no denying how darn good the bagels are here.

So in front of me is a a very skinny, actually TINY lady in her (of course, you guessed it) lululemon YOGA pants ordering a gutted bagel.  The server looks at her and in flash it's on the counter, wrapped in white paper & he is ringing her up.  For us New Yorkers, we are all so familiar with this as a standard request.   Actually, you rather have an order for a gut job over a toasted bagel, right?  I mean, time is precious especially at 8 am & you've got to get somebody(s) to preschool, hit the gym & get those bagels to yet another school before your other child's lunchtime.  Now, a gutted bagel is a quick way to get your carb fix, with less guilt & it definitely hits the spot (as seen by the skinny mini in the lululemons in front of me). The server just cuts the bagel in half, clears out all the center so you are basically left with the outside shell. Apparently, this is not so common the further away you get away from NY & the surrounding areas.  I know that if you were to order this, in let's say Richmond, the guy at Einstein Bagels may look at you like you've lost your mind & may even ask you to repeat your order several times before through his hands up and walking away.  I think we should put this one on the map just like Jerry, George & Elaine did with a "shmear".  What do you guys say?  Next time  you're at your favorite bagel shop, ask 'um for a gutted bagel & see how it goes.  Your stomach will thank you along with your waist...Trust me, get a gut job!  Let me know how it goes especially those of you outside the tri-state area.
Till tomorrow.....

Day 2

Wow, I was all set to chit chat about the  basics one should know about a boat (bow, port, etc...). After a fantastic boat ride over to Shelter Island Yacht Club for dinner last night, I thought, perfect, I've got my material for tomorrow. And maybe even few "things" you should know if you ever have dinner at a yacht club such as complete SILENCE when they bring the Flag down & the cannon goes off.  (I thought this was a Larchmont Yacht Club "thing" but apparently very standard at yacht clubs, who knew!  Not even me, a member of LYC!  Nothing crazy just the basics. One never knows when this sort of information can come in handy! Sounds silly but keeping in the loop always makes life a little easier.

But, then, to hear as so many of you have already...the passing of Amy Winehouse.  Wow, I know, I know...  The comments are echoed all around-'She was a drug addict', 'It isn't a surprise', 'It was bound to happen', blah, blah, blah...In the end, it is not that.  It is a loss.  Her demons won.  A talented 27 year "kid" lost the battle to those demons.  Her poor father turned around from NYC & flew back home to get back to the family.  While on tour recently, they had her hotel cleared out of ALL alcohol, although, that didn't help, she was still slurring & booed off the stage.  It is a disease and God, what a horrible one at that.
I know tonight, it'll be discussed on the entertainment channels & shows as well as at cocktail parties & everyone will say it was coming.  Just remember, she was someone's child, sister and Kelly Osbourne's BFF.

Day One & It's HOT!!!

Welcome!!
Its a hot one out there-100+ here in the New York area, which is just how we want it here at Scoop on the Loop!!!  We are going to talk about stuff that is super HOT (or cool!)...Just think, a daily dose of 5 minutes can keep you up to speed on something that you can talk about at a cocktail party, office water cooler, on the bus or even at the kid's pick up line....Each day is going to be different (sorta like Life, right?!?)...So here we go...I hope you enjoy!
It's too hot to eat in this sort of weather...So let's talk about a yummy drink-I mean, c'mon it is Friday after all!!  Friday in July during a major heatwave hitting at least 2/3 of the country...Grab a beer or a glass of wine but if you REALLY want to go for a yummy one on a steamer, grab a diet coke (most of us have access to this) & a bottle of Malibu Rum...Yeah, the one that tastes like suntan lotion. Its a tropical twist on the a rum & coke.  I mean, if you can't drink Malibu on a day like today, when on earth can you?  Now, this is the most important part..the ICE CUBES!  Ice cubes that are clear & big & square are Killer..Thanks, Bridget for introducing this small (but oh so important) ingredient.  They clank in the glass & are just the best finishing aspect to your cocktail!  Are you thirsty yet?  I sure am....
Watch for my new on-line store Scoop on the Loot!  Its coming soon & is sure to be fabulous!
Don't be duped, stay on top of "It" with Scoop on the Loop!!!
Enjoy & happy Friday to all.

Testing 123

We are so excited to get up and running.  Just have to do a few tests to insure that it's all working smoothly.
